One Day National seminar on Cancer Awareness for Faculty, research scholars and students was organized on 21 November, 2022

"Cancer awareness is the key to early detection and better health-seeking behavior" - with this aim, One Day National seminar on Cancer Awareness for Faculty, research scholars and students was organized on 21 November, 2022 by Department of Biotechnology, Government College for Girls, Sector 14, Gurugram in association with Indian Cancer Society (ICS). The initiative was taken under the Cancer Awareness Programme of Guru Angad Dev Teaching Learning Centre, S.G.T.B. Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Under Ministry of Education, Govt. of India and ICS. For the session two esteemed resource persons from ICS were invited to deliver the talk. First guest speaker was Ms. Rita Bhalla, Director Jagriti, ICS, and Delhi. In her talk she emphasized on the lifestyle choices like tobacco usage, alcohol consumption, junk food etc.) and their effect on the human body leading to most of the cancers. She delivered the message "Best way to beat cancer - let your faith be bigger than fear". Second guest speaker for the day was Ms. Alka Sheel, ICS volunteer with Jagriti, Sahyog and a cancer survivor. Her focus of the talk was about the breast and cervical cancer. She emphasized on the practice of Self-breast examination to prevent any future case of cancers and to have HPV vaccination in time to prevent the horrific cervical cancer. She stressed on the fact for Women to lead Healthy Lives as communities and countries are only as strong as health of their women. Approximately 110 participants registered in the Programme. It was a great success because of the work of Cancer awareness interns who organized the seminar in a great way. The seminar was successfully organized under the guidance of Principal Dr. Ramesh Garg and Department of Biotechnology (Ms. Indu Rathee, Dr. Prachi Gupta, Dr. Mansi Arora, Ms. Sangeeta, Dr. Sheetal Yadav)
